What does my dog's ear look like?

 


Whether floppy ears or standing up, this is your dog's ear structure. 

1.  Pinna in simple terms the Ear flap 

2. Vertical Canal - This is the area where you place ear medication/ clean out ear debris

3. Horizontal Canal- This is the area you massage after the medication has been placed 

4 . Tympanic membrane - Is a membrane which protects the inner part and functionality of the ear, when ear infections occur veterinarians always check for this part to be intact. If this membrane has broken the application of medication can damage the hearing system and cause severe pain to the inner ear. A different approach to the treatment of the ear problem is required if the tympanic membrane is broken.
